A synastry reading works through the cross-contacts in order of weight. Sun-sign columns stop at layer zero. The information lives in these four.
The classic first pass: how his core identity sits with her emotional nature, and vice versa. Sun-Moon contacts between two charts are the old marriage aspect of traditional astrology, the feeling of being at home with someone that neither person can quite explain.
Attraction itself. Venus is what each of you values and finds beautiful; Mars is how each of you desires and pursues. Their cross-contacts describe the chemistry, and their squares describe the friction that is often part of it.
The daily life aspect. Mercury-to-Mercury contacts describe whether conversation flows or grinds: how each of you thinks, argues, texts, and explains. Long relationships are conducted mostly in words. This layer predicts what those words feel like.
The glue and the grit. Saturn contacts bind couples for the long term and bring the lessons; Uranus contacts electrify and destabilize; Pluto contacts run deep and play for keeps. No serious compatibility reading skips them, and no sun-sign column ever includes them.
Two things separate a useful compatibility reading from a parlor game. First, wholeness: every chart contains dozens of placements, and the story lives in the pattern, not in any single contact. One difficult square inside a field of support reads completely differently than the same square standing alone. Second, honesty: a real reading names the friction. Charts do not lie about where two people will grind, and couples who know their grinding points in advance argue about the pattern instead of inside it.
Astrology is one lens on a pairing. It describes the emotional and psychological weather between two people. How your energies mechanically interlock, who fuels whom, whose openness amplifies whose definition, is a different question answered by a different system: Human Design compatibility. The two readings complement each other, and Eva holds both.
A synastry report is a snapshot. A relationship is a moving thing. Eva starts from the charts, and then does what no report can: she remembers what you tell her. The recurring fight you described in February is the one she recognizes in May, and she can show you which contact in the overlay it keeps riding in on, and what tends to de-escalate that specific circuit.
The charts are the wiring diagram. The conversations are the current. She reads both, and she gets sharper about your particular pairing every time you talk.
Synastry lays two complete natal charts over each other and reads the angles between them: your Venus on their Moon, their Saturn square your Sun. Each cross-contact describes a specific dynamic. The result is a map of where the relationship flows and where it grinds, not a percentage score.
It uses one placement out of dozens, so it is astrology at its lowest resolution. Two “incompatible” sun signs can share beautiful Moon and Venus contacts; two “perfect” ones can share a hard Saturn story. Whole charts or nothing.
Synastry compares two charts and describes how the people affect each other. A composite merges them into a third chart, the relationship itself. A full reading uses both.
Exact times give the fullest reading, fixing the Moon and adding house overlays. Without them, planet-to-planet contacts still carry most of the story. Enter what you both know.
